A few weeks ago some chickens (big ones) came to visit.  They wandered into the yard and picked some berries of my bushes and then wandered off back home.  They allowed me to take pictures!

I heard the dog barking and looked out the window to see this big bird perched in a pine tree.  Usually herons are seen in the pond and fly at the slightest disturbance.  This bird sat long enough for me to snap several pictures even with all the racket the dog was making!

One morning after a snow I watched the sunrise out of my back window.  A yellow glow rose in the eastern sky filtering through the trees...warm on a frosty morning.

These little birds are eating Black-eyed Susan seeds in the snow.   It is quite cold this week...not getting above freezing with a bit of snow on the ground.

My pond is visited by three Mallards in the spring and fall.  This is the drake.  They swim peacefully around keeping a wary eye on me and the dog.  Then after a few days I don't see them until their next visit.  They are like old friends and I'll look for them again when days begin to lengthen and warm.

I saw this chipmunk sitting on a twig a few feet from the ground, unmoving and almost invisible. 

Towhee

This bird is encountered mostly in the underbrush brightly calling its name or busily scratching in the leaves for food.  I saw this particular bird low in a bush.  It wasn't very frightened of me so I was able to get several pictures.  Towhees are among my favorite birds to watch.  The seem so cheerful!
